WHY SWIMMERS //002
Back-to-back sessions
Training five or six times a week means the canal rarely gets a chance to dry out. That standing moisture is what makes swimmer's ear a recurring problem rather than a one-off.
Chlorine strips the wax
Pool water removes the wax layer that normally protects the skin of the canal. Open water brings its own bacterial load instead.
You still need to hear
A coach on the wall, a set change, a lane-mate turning. In open water it is a boat, a whistle, a swim buddy. Plugs that seal you off make open water less safe.
FIT FOR SWIM //003
Prioritise the seal, not the grip
Swimming does not hit your ears the way a wipeout does, so you rarely need the largest wing. What you do need is a tip that seals properly - start at medium and size up if water still tracks in.
A cap over the top adds security for turns and starts. Fit the plugs first, then the cap.
EAR HEALTH //004
Swimmer's ear, honestly
Swimmer's ear - otitis externa - is an infection of the outer canal that starts with itching and turns into real pain. It is treatable and it recurs, which is why swimmers are so often looking for plugs.
SEAR Plugs form a waterproof seal that keeps the ear canal dry, which prevents swimmer's ear. Dry your ears after every swim as well.
SEAR PLUGS V2 //005
What SEAR actually is
One box covers the sizing. Four wing sizes and three tips ship in the box - twelve combinations - so you size up on the spot instead of guessing before you order, and you can run a different size in each ear if that is what your ears want.
The plugs are reusable silicone on a leash, in a case that clips to a kit bag. A hydrophobic pathway is designed to resist water while letting ambient sound through, so you can still hear the people and the conditions around you.

SWIM QUESTIONS //007
Questions from this sport
Can swimming earplugs prevent swimmer's ear?
Yes. Swimmer's ear starts with water trapped in the ear canal. A waterproof seal keeps the canal dry, which prevents it. Persistent pain, discharge or hearing changes still need a doctor.
Will they come out during a flip turn?
Turns and dive starts are the two moments most likely to unseat a plug. If it happens, size the wing up on that ear and fit a cap over the top.
Can I hear my coach on the wall?
The acoustic pathway allows ambient sound to pass through, which is why swim squads tend to prefer this design over solid plugs. It is quieter than open ears.
Do they work for triathlon?
Yes for the swim leg. Fit them before you put your cap on, and be aware that removing a cap in transition can pull a plug with it - practise it before race day.
Does this cover snorkelling?
Yes. Snorkelling is surface swimming with a mask, and the exposure pattern is the same. Do not use them for scuba diving.
Are they suitable for children?
SEAR Plugs V2 are sized for adult ears. The smallest wing and tip suit some teenagers, but we do not market them as a children's product.
